“It is the little things that matter.”
On Monday, April 27th, King’s Day, I was walking around the flea market in Wervershoof. What a crowd, what a lot of stuff, and what an atmosphere. It was a wonderfully convivial event. And then suddenly you hear and see Floris with his piano, and in front of him a small sign with the text: “Half of the proceeds go to the Auxili-ja Foundation!” What a beautiful gesture. As you walk on, you see that other charities are also being supported: Kika, a project in Uganda, KNMR. Then the song by Saskia and Serge comes to mind: “It is the little things that matter.” Those are the small moments that stick with you and bring a smile to your face.
For in today’s world, which is constantly in flux and in which we do not know what those in power will come up with next, we sometimes forget how valuable the small things can be. Those little things add color to life. An unexpected smile and a greeting from a passerby, the scent of freshly brewed coffee. It is those simple, almost unnoticed moments that can give a special feeling. And it is so valuable: a short message to someone who needs it at that moment, just a hand on your shoulder. Those small gestures often hold enormous significance for people. And the beauty of those small gestures is that they can be found everywhere, every single day. They require little effort, no money. You just have to have an eye for them. If you learn to see them, you realize that life is actually very rich. True happiness does not lie in chasing big dreams, but in appreciating “the little things that matter.”
P.S. Floris has transferred an amount of nearly 70 euros.
