“ How to make a block of ice”.
This was the heading for an article in the newspaper Dagblad voor Westfriesland.
This is the beginning of the fund raising event at the fair 2015: making a block of ice with a brick inside it. The newspaper refers to a Dutch children’s television series “Buurman en Buurman” in which nothing ever goes right first time, just as with preparing the block of ice at Veldboer-Eenhoorn. Luckily everything is ready now and a cubic meter of water is in the deepfreeze.
What is the idea of this fund raising event?
500 euro can be won by guessing the correct time at which the brick reaches the bottom of the pallet. Guess the time by donating 5 euro or more ( 10,15,20 etc.) for each different time. The bank account number is NL16 RABO 0368948870, the name is Auxilia-Brasili-ja. Don’t forget to fill in the time(s) at which you think the brick will reach the pallet. Also make sure that you clearly state your address or telephone number. (eg. 17-08:16.23. John Smith, 0228582203). It is also possible to guess the time during the fair. The melting of the ice block will be followed via a webcam. On Friday 14 August the ice block will be put into position in the vicarage garden in Wervershoof. On Sunday 16 August there is a short service in the tent of the dodgem cars after which the ice block will be officially unveiled.
Immediately after this there will be a small party at which the AOW youth choir and the Combolero band will take part. See our website for more information.
The charity which we support this year is the “Amigos Colombianos Foundation”.
Amigos Colombianos helps street girls in Medellín in Columbia by giving them a better future!
In January and March we had two meetings and Sunny Laan and Jos Schoenmaker came to give a talk. These were very interesting and it is good to hear how the money which we have donated is spent. Please go to our website to view the projects which we have supported.
