Rio de Janeiro, 26 August 2014.

The Prime minister's secretary rang a few days before the qualification match of the Dutch football team for the final of the World Cup with the question: Sjaak, do you have a project in Rio which Mr. Rutte can visit if the Dutch team goes through to the final?

Of course there was something that he must not miss during the days of the Maracana and that was the project for street children St.Martinus. But Holland lost and in that way also the street children!
A few months later a couple who had lived in The Hague married in Rio. Sjaak, can you do the marriage ceremony in Dutch, English and Portuguese? Of course that was possible, and that was immediately a good excuse to visit the street children, perhaps with another representative of the government. The Dutch Consul General in Rio, Mr. Arjen Uijterlinde , was immediately willing to come. That meant that St.Martinus had a bonus from the World Cup. The Consul still had 11 orange leather footballs and the group Auxilia-Brasili-ja in Wervershoof together with the English Speaking Parish Church of Our Saviour in The Hague gave a large donation.
This afternoon, together with a few scientists from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam the gifts were handed to the leaders of this project. The final score for the world cup: Holland-street children 1-1.

Ventouxilia

It was a great achievement on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June when a group of people climbed the Mont Ventoux. 16 people were involved in walking or cycling up the Mont Ventoux . It was hard work. Marie-Louise Sijm was invaluable for massaging the stiff muscles for which we are very thankful.

Furniture making

At the end of July/ beginning of August " our" Lonneke vd Gulik and 5 other people went to Tanzania for work experience. There they taught young people the rudiments of furniture making. Naturally we gave her money to take with her to buy the necessary tools and wood. For more information see our website.
