Newsletter July 2012
Browsing through the website www.auxilia-brasili-ja.nl you will see an impressive number of initiatives and projects. Also during the first half of this year, many people united their forces for different charities. The most recent event was the cycling tour to the top of the Alpe D'Huez in France. No less than 21 volunteers climbed this mountain to raise funds for water wells in Gambia. The idea originated less than a year ago and soon gained support from local sponsors and media.
By now all cyclists returned safely home and are able to hand over a cheque to the "June of Gambia" Foundation later this month. This organization will assist with building the wells together with the local people in Gambia and ensure their sustainability. This West Frisian "Tour de France, or rather, –Auxilialpe-" met with so much sympathy from the participants and their followers, that already a few dozen youngsters signed up for a similar trip in 2014.
In January the Silver Jubilee of Auxilia was celebrated in Rio de Janeiro. This resulted in sponsoring of musical instruments for a local band, and of sport outfits for 60 physically handicapped children. Also a gift from the World Youth Days in Madrid was given to the Cathedral of Itaguai, because in 2013 a few million youth will gather in Rio for a new edition of this impressive event.
As the chairman of the Auxilia Foundation I also have some personal news. My latest (4th) book entitled: "Let's Settle for May Be" was published in April and soon after presented to the library of Literary Society De Witte in The Hague. It is available for 25 Euros (Of which 10 Euros go to charity) from:
In the meantime the Auxilia group continues their good work, so do not hesitate to come up with good ideas and/or projects, and contact them.
With kind greetings and best wishes from the entire team, Fr. Sjaak de Boer
